Bowling Alley - W. G. Hefner VA Medical Center

Charlotte, NC

The Armed Forces Families Foundation funded a $40,000 renovation of the six‐lane bowling alley at the Charlotte VA Medical Center.

The bowling alley is used daily by the veterans in hospital, both Geriatric and Mental Health Veterans and outpatients as well. The current bowling alley is a six‐lane Brunswick system, and appears vintage or 50’s style. The bowling alley is used with wheelchair veterans and some of the veterans who participate in this activity are sent to the National Wheelchair Games and National Golden Age Games. The bowling alley has a special wheelchair‐made roller that these veterans use.

Local Bowlers come to the Charlotte VA bowling alley and will give clinics and assist those that are interested in the sport as well. The bowling alley is run by the Therapeutic Recreation Unit.

This project was completed in September, 2013.
