Refurbish Welcome Center
Jacksonville, FL – November 19, 2012
The Armed Forces Families Foundation contributed approximately $19,000 to refurbish the Welcome Center at the Jacksonville International Airport USO, including upgrading and refinishing the flooring, replacing kitchen equipment, and the addition of a large screen TV, three computers, and a multi-function printer/fax/scanner. The USO Welcome Center at JAX serves on average 3,000 service members and their families per week, with special events such as major deployments, tiger cruises, and evacuations driving those numbers much higher.
The upgrades to the USO Welcome Center at Jacksonville International Airport provided an area for family members to spend time with military personnel prior to deployment, as well as an area for servicemen and women to rest and relax with refreshments and diversions during their travels. The Welcome Center also provides a quiet room for family members who are awaiting the arrival of their fallen loved ones. The project was completed in November 2012, with the ribbon cutting held on November 19th, 2012.
