Build Two Multi-Age Children’s Playgrounds & Upgrade Pavilion
Naval Air Station Jacksonville
Jacksonville, FL – December 7, 2012
The Armed Forces Families Foundation contributed approximately $36,805 to construct two large multi-age children’s playgrounds and rehabilitate the Pavilion in the Mulberry Cove Marina area of the Naval Air Station Jacksonville. NAS Jacksonville employs over 23,000 active-duty military & civilian personnel, and encompasses over 3,800 acres along with St. Johns River.
The Marina at Mulberry Cove is currently operated by the Navy Morale, Welfare & Recreation (MWR), and is used to maintain and rent boats for military personnel & their families, and services 100+ personnel on a daily basis. The new playground area features slides, climbing equipment and other age-appropriate features. Additionally, the pavilion area, which is used for personal and command functions, was up-fitted with new electrical, lighting and paint, new grills and a regulation horseshoe pit. The renovation provides military personnel with an attractive facility to rest, relax, and enjoy picnics with their families, as well as a safe place for their children to play. The project was completed in September 2012, with the ribbon cutting held in December 2012.
