$46k AFFF donation brings two internet cafés to Bay Pines VA Hospital
Bay Pines VA Healthcare System – CW Bill Young Campus
Tampa, Fla. – Completed
Bay Pines CW Bill Young VA Medical Center (BPVAHCS –CWBY) in Bay Pines, Florida upgraded an existing on-site internet cafe and added a second location for patients and guests following a $46,572 commitment from the Armed Forces Families Foundation.
The first half of the project replaced an old, inoperable internet café located at the Domiciliary for the center’s in-patient and out-patient Substance Abuse Treatment Program (SATP). Of the existing 20 computers, only two were in working condition and were in dire need of replacement. The upgraded space was equipped with new Apple Mini Computers, each covered with a three year service plan, accompanying 22” 1080 60hz FHD monitors, three Lexmark monochrome laser printers and hardware accessories.
The second internet café was installed within BPVAHC-CWBY’s on-site Mental Health facility to support the needs of veterans taking part in therapy programs. The cafe includes an additional 15 new computers, monitors and one printer, as well as 10 Sony Playstation 4 Pro bundles for patient entertainment initiatives.
The Internet Cafes provide an opportunity to stay in contact with family and friends for approximately 1200 in-patient Veterans. Additionally, the computer spaces allow for the Veterans to take care of personal business such as online bill pay, resume building, job searches and online training courses.
