Malcom Randall Veterans’ Hospital
Remodel Two SICU Waiting Rooms
Gainesville, FL – June 4, 2012
The Armed Forces Families Foundation contributed over $16,000 to renovate and upgrade two Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU) waiting rooms at the Malcom Randall Veterans’ Hospital in Gainesville, FL, in order to provide more comfortable environments for families as they wait on and care for their loved ones in the SICU. The Malcom Randall VA Medical Center is a tertiary-care facility that is also an active teaching hospital connected with the University of Florida, with a 264-bed hospital and a 34-bed nursing home, which provides a full range of patient care services with state-of-the-art technology.
The SICU waiting rooms, including the larger main waiting room for patients’ families as well as the adjacent private waiting room for doctor-family consultations, were remodeled in this project. The upgrades included new cherry flooring, two new sofas, new wall art, and a flat screen TV, coffee center & microwave and the construction of a desk & cabinet area for families to use. The projects were completed in April 2012, with the ribbon cutting held on June 4, 2012.
