Build Family Pavilion & Upgrade Basketball Court
Patrick Air Force Base Central Housing
Orlando, FL – November 7, 2012
At Patrick Air Force Base in Cocoa Beach, FL, the Armed Forces Families Foundation contributed over $33,500 to construct a new family picnic pavilion and upgrade an outdoor basketball court, located near an existing recreational area at Patrick AFB Central Housing. Patrick AFB employs over 13,000 active-duty military & civilians on base, and is home to the 45th Space Wing & the 920th Rescue Wing. Within Central Housing, there are 616 housing units, where over 1,200 people reside.
The pavilion, which includes two grills and six picnic tables, is a 20’ x 28’ wood gable design that is located 50 feet from the ocean and directly behind one of the larger playgrounds in Central Housing, and provides a safe, welcoming site for military families to gather. The project also included the installation of new basketball goals on an existing outdoor court, a much needed upgrade for the facility. The project was completed in October 2012, with the ribbon cutting held on November 7, 2012.
